lake hudson | time lapse

A few weeks ago we went to my cousin’s cabin on Lake Hudson in Oklahoma.

It was a wonderful time to relive warm childhood memories, and help create new impressions with our little nephews.

It also happens to be a beautiful place.  So I took the opportunity to shoot a few time lapse videos to share.

I’m excited to be offering time lapse classes soon… Be on the lookout at Slaton // Workshops.  Enjoy!

a cool toned campout

my brother in law invited a few of his friends and me to his uncle’s farm to camp this past weekend.

other than me, it was a bunch of dad’s with their young kiddos.  a little terrifying for me at first, but it turned out to be an incredibly fun weekend.

the land was an armadillo haven.  i saw tons of signs of dillos, but i only caught a short glimpse of one in person…

i had to get the obligatory texas bluebonnet shot…

sunday was beautiful and gray.  i wandered and explored a bit with my camera.  the cool, blue tones caught my eye.

appalachia | deep greens and blues…

i always seem to head west when i’m shooting landscapes and nature.

so it was a pleasant surprise to my eyes and camera to go east in june.

i think we’re going to have to make it an annual trip…  :)

ballin’ with birds of prey

i play basketball every day.  i know, i know.  hard to picture.

regardless… it happens.  every day.

it can get pretty mundane i will admit.  but today was vastly different.

i walked up to the court, head down.  did my stretches.  heard a loud screech.

one that i don’t usually hear in the middle of dallas.

i looked up, and this is what i saw.  remarkable!  a red-tailed hawk about 15 yards from me.

what a phenomenal bird.  he allowed me to get within 10 feet of him too!

he caught a squirrel, so i think he was concerned with defending his meal.

but he sat there and watched me as i played basketball for a half an hour.

what an unusual treat today…

appalachia | a family reunion

my wife’s family has roots in the mountains of north carolina.  deep roots.

on her mom’s side, many in the family still live on the land they settled in the 19th century.

it is near the little town of caney fork, on the creek of the same name.

and it’s beautiful by the way.

so here is an abridged chronicle of our time in appalachia, celebrating july 4th (a little early).

side note: i shot a ton of landscapes and nature photos as well, and will share those in the next post…
